Division Music Hits all the High Notes!
Division Music Hits All the High Notes!
As we start back to a new academic year, with many exciting plans and events on the horizon, Cheam School once again brought everyone together for our annual Division Music competition.
Known to all as one of the musical highlights of the year, our students worked diligently to produce a variety of music for our delight, supported by our wonderful music department. Celebrating music making, community and collaboration at it’s finest, a huge variety of music and styles were covered. Pop bands, chamber ensembles, soloists and pop songs reverberated around the sports hall. Accompanied by our very own live house band, the house songs featured hits from the Eurovision Song Contest. The audience were treated to songs by Lulu, Katrina and the Waves, Bucks Fizz and Abb, and our pop bands got everyone up and singing along as they covered songs by The Ramones, Wheatus, The Clash and The Blackhearts. The atmosphere was soothed by our talented soloists performing some gorgeous classical music. Thomas M performed Gabriel’s Oboe, followed by Ralph H performing a movement from Teleman’s Concerto in G on viola. Will H treated us to a light jazz waltz on his saxophone, followed by Allegra H playing a vibrant violin piece by Potstock. Our chamber ensembles performed some delightful folk tunes, arranged by Tim Bennett, which provided the perfect platform for our musicians talents to shine through.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the adjudicator, David Thomas, for joining us on the day, our music teachers who supported and taught our musicians as they prepared for the concert, to everyone behind the scenes and our sound crew who helped to make this event such a happy and successful event. Thanks are also extended to Janet Coxwell and Jack Rennie who helped coach our groups, and to all the music staff and guests who were involved in playing and accompanying on the day. Congratulations to Beck, who were awarded the top prize, closely followed by Aldrich (who were only one point away from Beck!), and Gilpin and Tabor who were awarded joint third.
Thanks to our friends at Blue Fish Audio, the event has been recorded. If you would like to receive a copy, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
