Year 7 visit The National Gallery
Year 7 Outing to the National Gallery
On Tuesday 19th September Year 7 went on an Art outing to The National Gallery in London. We were given a guided tour with the focus on portraiture. We looked at paintings from different eras; we learned how Van Dyck painted Charles 1 on horseback to make him look more powerful and Mignard’s portrait of the Marquise as a sea goddess shows how artists used allegory to flatter their sitters.
In the afternoon the pupils drew portraits in their sketchbook inspired by the paintings in the collection. We will continue the portraits theme is class and the pupils will paint portraits of influential people this term.
