Year 7 Art Scholars' outing to Roche Court
Year 7 Art Scholars’ outing to Roche Court
The Year 7 Art Scholars enjoyed a guided tour of the New Arts Centre at Roche Court near Salisbury on July 3rd. The venue is a sculpture park and the pupils learned about curating work outdoors. They discovered how some sculptures are site specific and others are portable. We looked at a few works in depth including an enormous Corten steel construction by Antony Caro and Laura Fords’ moving ‘Days of Judgement’ sculptures which were cast from anthropomorphic mannequins. A favourite piece was Peter Newman’s fibreglass ‘Sky Station’; we could sit on this and gaze upwards! Another favourite was Michael Craig-Martin’s ‘space drawing’ of a garden fork. This bright pink sculpture was created using an amazing water jet cutting process. The pupils were so inspired by the visit and will follow this up by making sculptures of their own next term.
