A large parental crowd cheered on their respective divisions in a highly exciting sports day packed with both track and field events.
This is a team competition with children competing for their respective divisions and also an individual competition to see who will be crowned the best athlete from the three age groups.
To moan about the weather (it was too hot) would be a typically British thing to do so I won’t! We were lucky to have blue skies and little wind for the whole day and all children gave their utmost competing for their division. The headmaster, witnessing his first sports day, was most impressed with the whole event and thoroughly enjoyed watching the two division relays, in which all children in the prep school ran with the baton from one end of the 100m track to the other hopefully without dropping it.
Tabor triumphed in the junior relay and Aldrich in the senior.
There were many fine individual performances in many events ranging from Sam L, Year 8, in the high jump clearing the bar set at a height taller than himself to Federica C, Year 3, launching the ball further than I can see!
All children enjoyed their day, going home exhausted but thoroughly satisfied that they had given their all in each of their events.
Individual winners were
U14 Victrix Ludorum – Yolanda A and Molly J
U14 Victor Ludorum – Ned PB
U12 Victrix Ludorum – Emilia J
U12 Victor Ludorum – Jonty N
U10 Victrix Ludorum – Jemima I
U1 Victor Ludorum – William H
Overall division result: 1st Aldrich, 2nd Gilpin, 3rd Tabor, 4th Beck
Mr Harris conducted a prize giving in which all winners of every event received a cup and medal handed out by the mothers of the head boy and girl, and my thanks go to them.
My thanks also go to all the staff, from the teachers for all the judging and scoring, to the grounds staff for preparing athletic fields which were perfect in every way and the catering department for keeping us all fed and watered.
