Welcome to the Cheam website. I feel privileged to be the new Headmaster of Cheam and my wife, Catherine, and I are very excited to be leading the school from September.
I strongly believe that a child’s prep school days should be special; a range of experiences to be enjoyed now but it is also about setting in place firm foundations for the future. Learning at this age is primarily about experiences; in the classroom, around the amazing grounds, with friends and making the most of the wide myriad of opportunities that this fabulous school has to offer.
All this takes place within a community whereby each child feels a strong sense of belonging so that all are happy and harmonious. Prep school education is a partnership between children, staff and parents and we are ambitious for your children in all that they do here and beyond.
If you are a current parent we greatly look forward to meeting you and your children soon. If you are a prospective parent we hope you will visit the school; you will be guaranteed a warm welcome, as we have experienced!

I have been a Headmaster for thirteen years at Sandroyd a prep school in Wiltshire. Prior to that I was a Deputy-Head for seven years at Ashdown House in Sussex. During my time as Head amongst other things I introduced co-education to the school, opened a pre- prep department, and implemented a development plan that included various enhancements to the curriculum as well as building a theatre, chapel, sports hall and new classrooms. I have taught Geography, History, English and Reasoning skills as well as coaching various sports throughout my career.
I still try and play some sport, cricket and golf mainly. In the past I have played a lot of football as well. Nowadays I watch as much sport as I play and I am looking forward to seeing the Cheam teams in action. I enjoy music and the theatre and have written and produced plays for the younger children in the prep school.
Catherine is a qualified Physiotherapist, (graduating from St Thomas’ Hospital and completing an MSc at Brighton University). She has been fully involved in most areas of school life and is looking forward to doing the same at Cheam.
